Hot peppers

What is it?

We grow a few different hot peppers:
El Jefe: traditional jalapeno, hot, typically picked and eaten green
Fresno: Fresno chile, medium hot, typically picked and eaten red
Mellow Star: Japanese shishito pepper, mostly mild, typically picked and eaten green

The peppers will be hanging under the leaves of the plants. Look for large peppers, and use your scissors to gently snip the stem.

How do I clean and store it?

All you need to do is rinse your peppers in cool clean water and you’re good to go! Store them in the fridge in a reusable bag or container with a lid.

How do I cook it?

“Oh no, we picked six pounds of hot peppers”:

  • Pickle shishitos like pepperoncini

  • My favorite thing is to pickle jalapenos into nacho slices! Slice the jalapenos thin and pack them into a mason jar. Bring a 1:3 ratio of water to white vinegar mixture to boil and pour over the peppers until they’re submerged. Put the lid on, place in the fridge, and give them about a week before you dig in. We eat these on nachos, eggs, anything!
